Audi has been known for decades as a manufacturer of beautiful, stylish automobiles that come with many standard features that are considered to be upgrades in other makes of cars. However, with the Audi 3, this company may have just surpassed itself!
The Audi 3 is not only a beautiful compact car, but it was also Audi’s solution to consumers who needed a lower priced car. Audi has been manufacturing the Audi 3 since 1996 and since that time, two generations of the vehicle have been released. The first Audi 3 was released into the European market back in 1996. This car looked very similar to the Audi Golf however, it only came with three doors and a hatchback. Audi hoped that by presenting this design, the Audi 3 would be much sportier than the Golf.
The second generation of the car was unveiled at an auto show in Geneva. This generation also came with three doors and a hatchback however, it also had a four cylinder engine, a new platform, and a much more spacious and modern interior. In 2003, the Audi 3 received even more improvements such as the on-demand four-wheel drive and the S-Tronic semi-auto gearbox were also new options on this generation.
In June 2004, Audi took their Audi 3 up another level by introducing the five door Sportback model. It was this model that first featured the single frame on the front grille that is now available on all Audi 3 cars. The Audi 3 Sportback was also much bigger than its predecessors with very large luggage compartments, much more cabin space in the back, and of course, five doors as opposed to four.
